Customers of smart of Lakeside, smart of Ipswich and recently-opened smart of Chelmsford put their own spin on formation driving to attend this year’s smart festival.
Over 85 owners and their passengers gathered together at smart of Lakeside’s Heron Way site before joining the retailers’ convoy to the smart festival venue – Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, Surrey.
It is the fourth time that the official smart retailers have invited customers to travel to the event en masse and, as in previous years, they set the smart owners up for the fun-packed day with all the latest news on the iconic brand and a hearty breakfast. In fact, the specially laid-on catering served up a total of 248 eggs, 500 rashers of bacon and 250 sausages in over 220 breakfast baps!
The convoy of nearly 90 cars, which was headed by eye-catching demonstrator models from the official smart retailers, made a great spectacle as it weaved its way around the M25 to the legendary motorsport venue.

This year’s smart festival coincided with the 10th anniversary of the iconic brand being officially available in the UK in right-hand drive and celebrated the occasion with an unprecedented array of smart-themed attractions, including the exclusive opportunity to drive the zero-emissions smart fortwo electric drive. Customers of smart of Lakeside, smart of Ipswich and smart of Chelmsford also enjoyed such delights as the premiere of the commemorative smart fortwo gb-10 edition, the smart arrows formation driving team and a display of models from the striking BRABUS tailor made collection.
There were competitions for the ‘Most Modified’, ‘Best Kept’ and ‘Best Dressed’ smart too, while the manufacturer added a trio of its own highly modified examples to the colourful line-up, including the legendary smart roadster V6 biturbo.
